Codieshub began a needs analysis in mid-2023 and developed the interface with HMS. It launched in Reykjanesbær in November 2024, with more municipalities to come.
Overview
With the new building permit application portal, significant steps have been taken to bring the entire permitting process and all municipalities in the country into one place. Services for homebuilders, designers and contractors are greatly improved with user-friendly instructions and data reporting, clarity and visibility for all parties, and notifications when important milestones are reached.Codieshub partnered with the client from idea to execution shaping the product strategy, defining user journeys, and designing an intuitive interface that made complex team management feel effortless.
The interface
The interface is a central point of communication and data for all parties involved in construction projects. Designers submit drawings, construction managers nominate tradesmen, and homebuilders receive notifications and information to push about what is delaying the progress of matters.Municipalities will receive a user-friendly processing interface that provides a better overview of ongoing cases, increases automation in data processing, and reduces the burden of inquiries. All data will automatically flow into the municipal case file system and the HMS civil engineering register.
The solution
The first version is an application process for designers that has been launched by Reykjanesbær. The City of Reykjavík will open applications in a new interface later in 2025.The impact of the project will include shorter processing times for building permits, less manual work by municipalities, and greatly improved data collection and statistics on structures and housing development in Iceland.
