Overview

Kapital Bank is a financial pillar in Azerbaijan. Established in 1874, it serves over 5 million individuals and 22,000 corporate customers, holding over $3.5 billion in assets. As the oldest commercial bank in the region, they are involved in major governmental programs and hold the widest network of branches in the country.In 2016, Kapital Bank commissioned Codieshub to develop their initial customer-facing iOS and Android applications. That launch helped the bank secure a position of digital leadership. However, sustaining that lead proved difficult. After taking maintenance in-house, the bank faced growing infrastructure complexity and internal miscommunication. These challenges disrupted the flow of updates and threatened the customer experience.

The opportunity

After the initial launch, Kapital Bank relied on internal IT talent to maintain the platform. Over time, the growing complexity of the servicing infrastructure led to suboptimal operations. The internal teams struggled with bottlenecks, resulting in delayed releases and a lagging mobile experience.The bank needed more than just bug fixes. They needed a comprehensive overhaul of their development culture. The goal was to bridge skill gaps within the in-house team, modernize the legacy code base, and establish a workflow that allowed for fast, cost-effective app evolution without disrupting services for millions of users.

The solution

Kapital Bank turned to Codieshub to optimize their development process and coordinate a full-scale revamp. We started by embedding a leadership team comprising a project manager and tech leads to audit existing workflows. We introduced Agile methodologies and established cross-departmental communication flows to eliminate operational silos.Once the process was fixed, we augmented their IT team with 5 iOS developers, 3 Android developers, and a QA engineer. This hybrid team executed a complete architecture and UI redesign. Codieshub tech leads spearheaded a critical migration of the tech stack, moving the Android app from Java to Kotlin and the iOS app from Objective-C to Swift. This modernization accelerated the development of new features, such as personal finance management and payment modules.Beyond the app, Codieshub provided a high-level audit of the bank's IT infrastructure. In just four weeks, our solution architects reviewed code, architecture, and network resilience to ensure the system could scale safely as digital demand surged.
