Overview
ChargeIQ is an innovative arm of one of Turkey's largest corporations, an entity that built its reputation on manufacturing consumer electronics. As the automotive industry shifts toward electrification, ChargeIQ pivoted its focus to environmental sustainability and pollution reduction. Their goal was to become a key player in the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure market.The company had previously released a solution for navigating public charging stations. However, ChargeIQ identified a growing need for a personal, home-based solution. They requested a dedicated mobile application that would allow EV owners to control their personal charging points, review electricity usage statistics, and optimize charging times to align with "eco-hours" when electricity rates are lowest.
The opportunity
As EV adoption accelerates, hardware is only half the equation. Users expect a seamless digital experience to manage their hardware. ChargeIQ needed a robust application that could communicate with their proprietary charging units.There were significant technical hurdles to overcome. The app needed to interpret complex data formats used by the chargers to perform specific actions. Additionally, the client required a unique localization feature. They wanted users to be able to switch between 10 different languages manually within the app, overriding the default iOS system language settings.The most significant logistical challenge was physical distance. The development team did not have physical access to the ChargeIQ charging units in the office, requiring a complex remote work process to ensure software and hardware communicated perfectly.
The solution
Codieshub took on the challenge of building a high-performance iOS application using Swift. To address the hardware integration issues, we established a rigorous remote testing protocol. We engineered the app to process and send data using specific formats (SOAP and Websockets) that the charger hardware required for operation.We focused heavily on the user interface and experience. Codieshub developers built a top-notch UI with separate, reusable components to ensure consistency and code efficiency. We solved the localization challenge by building a custom language engine that allows users to select their preferred language independent of their phone's global settings.To ensure reliability, we utilized Realm for local database management, allowing for an offline mode where users can review the latest cached information even without an active internet connection. The system allows users to register their ChargeIQ charger on the cloud via email or Google account, unlocking extended remote control capabilities.
The impact
The result is a powerful, user-centric application that bridges the gap between the driver and the grid. The app supports 10 languages, making ChargeIQ ready for a global market.Users now have complete control over their charging experience. They can start or stop charging remotely, view detailed usage statistics for specific periods, and most importantly, schedule charging during off-peak hours. This scheduling feature directly translates to cost savings for the user and reduced strain on the power grid.By partnering with Codieshub, ChargeIQ successfully expanded their portfolio from public infrastructure to the private home, offering a cohesive ecosystem that promotes green energy and user convenience.
