Overview
Freewill is more than a Japanese IT consultancy, it is an enterprise driven by a vision of a "Sustainable Eco Society." While their core business delivers managed IT services, their corporate values align strictly with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.They recognized a fundamental flaw in traditional charity and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): a lack of visibility. Donors often hesitate because they cannot see where their money goes. Freewill wanted to change this narrative. They envisioned a digital ecosystem that would not only facilitate social good but prove it, ensuring that every contribution was traceable, transparent, and impactful.
The opportunity
To realize this vision, Freewill sought to build "Spin" (Social Parents, Investment & Nurture), a crowdfunding platform designed specifically for charitable causes. The challenge was trust. The platform needed to allow "social parents" (donors) to fund talented children and people in need while providing irrefutable proof of how funds were utilized.However, the scope grew beyond a single app. Freewill decided to consolidate their various social initiatives, including a blog space and an eco-friendly marketplace, into a unified digital environment. They needed a technology partner with deep expertise in product design and distributed ledger technology to architect a solution that was secure, scalable, and capable of handling complex global transactions.
The solution
Codieshub partnered with Freewill to engineer a trust-based platform underpinned by the Ethereum Blockchain. This technology was chosen to ensure absolute transparency, allowing every donation to be tracked from the initial transaction all the way to the final beneficiary.Our team developed the Spin platform to enable detailed project reporting, expense tracking, and a voting system where donors can decide on the future of the projects they fund. To facilitate global accessibility, we integrated the Stripe payment gateway for seamless fiat transactions.Beyond the core charity function, Codieshub modernized the technology stack to unify Freewill’s broader ecosystem. We integrated "Vibes" (a social issues blog), "FWFS" (crowdsourcing), and the "Marketplace" (eco-commerce) into a single user experience. This included the creation of a proprietary crypto wallet and token system, allowing users to earn and spend tokens across all services, further incentivizing social good.
