Overview
For the Booty family, competition is not just a pastime, it is a way of life. With a professional lineage spanning the NFL and MLB, brothers Jack and Josh Booty know exactly what drives the competitive spirit. However, they noticed a significant gap in the modern digital landscape. While social platforms are great for sharing highlights, they fail to capture the raw energy of a real-life "bet", the spirited trash talk, the dares, and the accountability of a handshake agreement.They conceived "Bula" (a Fijian term for "life" and a playful slang for "pay up"). The vision was distinct: a platform where friends could issue challenges, upload video proof, and appoint judges to declare a definitive winner. To make this work, they needed more than just a social feed, they needed a system with unwavering integrity to handle the stakes.
The opportunity
Turning this competitive vision into reality required a sophisticated technical foundation. The founders aimed to build a "Web3-first" application, but with a critical twist, the complexity had to be invisible to the user. The goal was to deliver a sleek, TikTok-style interface where users could engage instantly without navigating clunky crypto wallets or technical barriers.They needed a development partner capable of acting as a technical extension of their leadership team. The mandate was strict: deliver a fully functional Minimum Viable Product (MVP) in under six months that could handle high-performance video playback while simultaneously managing secure, blockchain-based settlements in the background.
The solution
Codieshub stepped in to lead the full-cycle development, treating Bula as a greenfield project. Collaborating closely with technical co-founder Michael Caplovitz, we architected a dual-layer solution that merged high-speed social interaction with fintech-grade security.For the frontend, our team utilized Flutter to build a highly responsive cross-platform mobile app. To solve the user friction usually associated with blockchain, we integrated LoginID for passwordless authentication, ensuring secure onboarding took seconds rather than minutes.Beneath the surface, Codieshub engineered a powerful backend using Node.js to bridge the mobile interface with the GetChkd blockchain ecosystem. We also tackled the challenge of media storage by implementing Storj, a decentralized solution that encrypts and distributes user-generated video content for maximum security and speed.
