Overview

Rodeo

Shopify's subscription marketplace was cluttered with complex, developer-centric tools. Rodeo needed something different — a subscription plugin that feels native to Shopify, is easy to set up, and lets merchants manage recurring payments without technical overhead.

We partnered with Rodeo from discovery through App Store launch, moving a full Polaris-aligned product through design, engineering, QA, and store listing in eight weeks.

The Challenge

What we needed to solve.

Existing Shopify subscription apps had confusing onboarding that cost merchants time and trust before they'd processed a single order.

Merchants needed a clear dashboard to track subscriptions at a glance — open performance, churn risk, and active customer state.

The experience needed to feel native to Shopify, aligned to the Polaris design system, rather than bolted onto the surface of the platform.

Exceptional service from start to finish. Their insight and precision made our project a complete success.

The Solution

What we built.

We started with clarity, defining user flows and scope before jumping into pixels or code. Using Shopify's Polaris system in Figma, our design team built wireframes that mapped every interaction from app installation to first subscription setup.

Two design iterations — Version 1 shipped for internal UX validation, Version 2 refined hierarchy, navigation, and feedback states based on the testing signal.

Polaris-Native UI

Wireframes and final designs mapped to Shopify's Polaris system, adding Rodeo's tone through typography without breaking platform expectations.

Engineering Build

React + Polaris on the frontend; Node.js / Express on the backend. Shopify App Bridge and REST APIs for secure platform integration.

App Store Launch

Sandbox QA, store listing copy, onboarding documentation, and first-week install support — all delivered alongside the Rodeo team.
