Codieshub

Custom Ruby on Rails Software Services Development Company

Ruby on Rails Development for Fast-Moving Products

We ship Rails applications with the pragmatism the framework rewards: clean domain models, well-tested business logic, and the speed to iterate that early-stage teams need.

Is Ruby on Rails still a good choice for a SaaS product?

Ruby on Rails is still a strong choice for SaaS products that value fast feature delivery, because convention over configuration and mature gems shorten the path to a working app, and Ruby 3.x with YJIT handles most web workloads. Codieshub has maintained Rails apps since 2012, including upgrades from Rails 4 to 7 and Sidekiq scaling.

How we approach Ruby on Rails Development

Ruby, and Rails in particular, built some of the most successful SaaS businesses of the last two decades: GitHub, Shopify, Basecamp, Stripe's early API layer. The language's expressiveness and Rails' convention-over-configuration philosophy still make it the fastest path from idea to working web application for teams that value developer velocity and a rich ecosystem of battle-tested gems.

The knock on Ruby is performance. That criticism is largely outdated. Ruby 3.x delivers YJIT-compiled throughput that closes the gap with Node.js for most web workloads. More importantly, the bottleneck in production Rails apps is almost never the language runtime: it's N+1 queries, missing database indexes, and synchronous work that belongs in a background job queue. These are architectural problems, not language problems, and they're solvable.

Codieshub has maintained Ruby and Rails applications continuously since 2012. We've taken legacy monoliths from Rails 4 to 7, extracted service layers, added Hotwire and Turbo for SPA-like responsiveness without the JavaScript bundle overhead, and scaled Sidekiq queues to handle millions of background jobs per day. Our engineers treat Ruby as a serious production tool, not a prototype language.

The challenge

Ruby projects accumulate technical debt faster than most stacks because the framework's magic hides complexity until it breaks: STI models that should be polymorphic associations, callbacks that trigger side effects six layers deep, test suites that take forty minutes because nobody separated unit from integration tests. By the time teams notice, the codebase resists every change.

Our approach

Codieshub Ruby engineers follow a strict separation of concerns from day one: thin controllers, service objects for business logic, query objects for complex ActiveRecord, and background jobs for anything that doesn't need to be synchronous. New features get RSpec coverage at the unit and request spec level. Database migrations are always reversible. Code review enforces these boundaries before any PR merges.

The outcome

Clients get a codebase where a new developer can be productive in their first week, test suites that run in under ten minutes, and a production environment instrumented with APM (Scout, Datadog, or New Relic) so slowdowns are caught before users file tickets. Rails upgrades become routine rather than existential events.

Pre-kickoff technical and strategic review.

Before a single line of code, we sit with your team to align on stack, constraints, and what success looks like. Our VP Eng, CTO, and senior leads join, not a sales engineer.

Questions

Frequently asked, honestly answered.

The questions we get on every intro call, answered without the marketing gloss.

  1. Yes, for most B2B and B2C SaaS applications. Rails 7 with Hotwire gives you server-rendered speed, reactive UI without a heavy JavaScript framework, and an ecosystem of mature gems for payments (Stripe), authentication (Devise/Rodauth), search (Searchkick/Elasticsearch), and background processing (Sidekiq). If you're building something that requires real-time collaborative editing or extremely high-throughput event streaming, we'll advise whether Ruby is the right fit or whether a hybrid architecture makes more sense.
